Currently OVS-DPDK needs big memory (hugepages) and occupies some cores exclusively, but OVS kernel doesn't have such requirements, is it possible to run OVS-DPDK without hugepages, busy loop and exclusive cores? The answer is yes. DPDK can run with common 4K pages, DPDK can run in interrupt mode, this can avoid busy loop and avoid to occupy a core exclusively, OVS-DPDK will use less memory and have less cpu utilization by these ways. It will unlock developers from burdensome OVS kernel work because we mustn't maintain OVS kernel if OVS-DPDK can work well with less memory and doesn't occupy a core exclusively as OVS kernel. A workable OVS-DPDK PoC will be demonstrated during presentation.
